Silent install for OAM, OIM

Oracle Universal Installer in Silent Mode

Silent installation option for OAM or OIM is an automated hands free method of installing where you need not monitor the installation steps and click or respond to input dialog boxes, radio buttons etc. However, it is good practice to run through the installation steps via the Graphical User Interface or GUI. This will not only help you understand the various dialog boxes and radio button options etc that will be needed during the install process but also help in creating the Response file.

Silent mode installation is a great option if you have multiple installs to be done and you can automate the install process saving time and avoid errors with manual installation.

Silent installation of OAM, OIM 12.2.1.3, read here

You can follow the above Silent Install steps for any of the Oracle Fusion Middleware components, e.g. Oracle Identity Governance 12.2.1.3, OIM or Oracle Access Manager (OAM). The Silent install provides installation to be done via a response file as with earlier 11g release. After a response file has been created, you can use this response file to do silent installs.
Silent installation of your Oracle Fusion Middleware product is accomplished by using the -silent flag on the command line when you start the installer. Most cases, you can supply the location and name of a file containing certain input values (for example, installation location). These are the values that would be asked for during a typical installation using the graphical user interface.

Silent installation does not include configuration

Be aware that the Silent installation does not include configuration. That is, you cannot configure your product silently using the same silent installation commands and response file. Configuration is a separate process, unlike in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g. Refer to the installation guide for your product for complete information about configuring your product.

Secure your Response Files
However, take care with securing the response file, since the
response file contain certain passwords required by the installer. Follow the below guidelines to minimize security issues regarding these passwords in the response file.
(a) Set the permissions on the response files so that they are readable only by the operating system user who is performing the silent installation.
(b) If possible, remove the response files from the system after the silent installation is completed.

How to create a Response File
Oracle recommends using your product graphical installer or deinstaller to create a response file that you can use to silently install or deinstall your product.

Run your product graphical installer or deinstaller, as described in your product installation guide.
For product installation, on the Installation Summary screen, click Save Response File to save your installation parameters to a response file

Example of how to Save a Response File.
Here is an example of how to save a Response File for OHS server that I have used in 11g version. You can use this screen to verify installation options you selected. If you want to save these options to a response file, click Save Response File and enter the response file location and name. The response file collects and stores all the information that you have entered, and enables you to perform a silent installation (from the command line) at a later time.

Click "Save Response File"
